For the competition, contestants choreograph a routine which is performed to a panel of judges.  Entries are scored according to their dance ability for their age and years of training, stage presence, choreography, timing/rhythm, and costume.

Contestants are adjudicated against a point system.  A score of 70 - 79 is a bronze medal, 80 - 89 is a silver medal, and 90 - 100 is a gold medal.  The over-all high score winner wins the scholarship award, which is a trophy and free lessons for the following September through June session.
